Bob Lee, desenvolvedor que ajudou a criar o Android, é assassinado nos EUA

O CPO da criptomoeda MobileCoin e um dos responsáveis por desenvolver o Android, Bob Lee, foi assassinado nesta terça-feira (4), em São Francisco, nos EUA. Ele tinha 43 anos.

Lee foi esfaqueado várias vezes e foi levado ao hospital, mas não resistiu aos ferimentos. A polícia investiga o crime, mas ainda não tem pistas do assassino.

Bob Lee, também conhecido como “Crazy” Bob, trabalhou no Google nos primórdios do Android, começando em 2004, tendo focado no desenvolvimento da biblioteca central do SO.

Após deixar a gigante das buscas, Lee se juntou, em 2010, à Square, companhia de pagamentos, que, posteriormente, se tornou a Block. Lá, foi um dos responsáveis pelo desenvolvimento do app da empresa.

Chegou a ser o primeiro CTO da startup e também criou o Cash App, em 2011, espécie de carteira digital. Foi, em 2015, CEO do app de conversas em grupo Present, focado nas mulheres. Atualmente, era o CPO da empresa fornecedora de criptomoeda MobileCoin.

O desenvolvedor também foi um dos autores do “Bitter EJB”, obra voltada para codificadores, ajudando-os a evitar armadilhas comuns ao escrever para o framework Enterprise Java Beans para desenvolver aplicativos de negócios baseados na web.

“Crazy” Bob, porém, não era só desenvolvedor; ele também era investidor em startups de tecnologia. Ele investiu na SpaceX, Clubhouse, Tile, Figma, Faire, Orchid, Addressable, Nana, Ticket Fairy, Gowalla, Asha, SiPhox, Netswitch, Found, entre outras.

Reações da comunidade tech

Como podia se imaginar, a morte de Lee foi recebida com choque e tristeza pela comunidade de tecnologia. “É real. Estou recebendo ligações. Comovente. Bob foi fundamental para a Square e o Cash App. Era um cara para se amar”, Jack Dorsey, CEO da Block e cofundador do Twitter, escreveu no nostr.

Tão triste ao saber da morte prematura de Bob. O conheci no verão de 2006 – ele não se importava que eu tivesse apenas 14 anos e conversávamos sobre tecnologia/geek sobre programação. Permanecemos conectados ao longo dos anos e ele foi um dos primeiros apoiadores da Figma. É tão difícil acreditar que ele se foi.

Quem também comentou a morte de Lee foi o bilionário Elon Musk, que, no tuíte de Jake Shields, lutador de MMA, afirmou que “muitas pessoas que conheço foram severamente agredidas. Crimes violentos em São Francisco são horríveis e, mesmo que os agressores sejam pegos, eles são geralmente soltos imediatamente”.

Teorias da conspiração

Apesar de ainda não haver nenhum indício da motivação do crime, a comunidade de tecnologia já começa a levantar algumas teorias, por enquanto, infundadas.

A razão para tal comoção se dá pelo fato de que Lee não foi o primeiro magnata das criptomoedas a morrer nos últimos tempos. O cofundador do Amber Group, Tiantian Kullander faleceu enquanto dormia em sua casa. Ele tinha 29 anos.

Além dele, o bilionário Vyacheslav Taran faleceu em acidente de helicóptero. Outra morte suspeita para alguns foi a de Nicolai Arcadie Muchigan, cofundador da MakerDAO por afogamento. O caso aconteceu após Muchigan afirmar que a CIA o queria morto.

A morte de Lee fez a MobileCoin cair 6% durante esta quarta-feira (5), mantendo-se, contudo, entre as 150 maiores criptomoedas do mercado.
