O avião espacial ultrassecreto dos Estados Unidos, X-37B, foi lançado com sucesso ao espaço na noite desta quinta-feira (28). A espaçonave foi lançada na Flórida, com ajuda do foguete Falcon Heavy, da empresa espacial do bilionário Elon Musk.
O X-37B faz parte de um programa especial de segurança nacional dos Estados Unidos. O Pentágono divulgou poucos detalhes sobre a espaçonave. Por este motivo, o avião é considerado ultrassecreto.
O lançamento ocorreu após mais de duas semanas de atrasos. Três contagens regressivas anteriores foram abortadas devido ao mau tempo e problemas técnicos não especificados.

Em um comunicado, o Gabinete de Capacidades Rápidas da Força Aérea se limitou a afirmar que a nova missão envolveria testes de “novos regimes orbitais, experimentando futuras tecnologias de reconhecimento do domínio espacial”.
Está é a sétima missão da espaçonave, que poderá orbitar em um ponto mais alto do que nas missões anteriores — a 35 mil km acima da Terra. No entanto, o governo norte-americano não forneceu informações sobre a qual altitude o avião ficará.
Analistas chegaram a afirmar que a espaçonave poderá explorar regiões do espaço na vizinhança da Lua. Por outro lado, quanto mais perto o X-37B se aproximar da Lua, mais difícil será o retorno em segurança para a Terra.
A nave também está realizando um experimento da Nasa para estudar como as sementes das plantas são afetadas pela exposição prolongada ao ambiente hostil da radiação no espaço.
A capacidade de manter plantações no espaço tem implicações importantes para manter os astronautas nutridos durante futuras missões de longo prazo, como para a Lua ou Marte.
A primeira missão do X-37B foi feita em 2010. De lá para cá, foram mais de 3.700 dias no espaço. A expectativa é que a operação desta vez dure até 2026.

O X-37B foi construído para implantar várias cargas úteis no espaço e realizar experimentos tecnológicos em voos orbitais de longa duração.
O veículo construído pela Boeing tem aproximadamente o tamanho de um pequeno ônibus. O design lembra um ônibus espacial.
No final da missão, a nave desce de volta pela atmosfera para pousar em uma pista semelhante a um avião.
