Nova tinta promete combater as mudanças climáticas; veja como

Enquanto o planeta segue enfrentando temperaturas recordes e crises climáticas, cientistas desenvolveram um novo tipo de tinta que promete desacelerar o aquecimento da Terra.

Na teoria, se trata de um revestimento feito de pasta de vidro e partículas de óxido de alumínio capaz de refletir a luz solar quando aplicado em diferentes superfícies como telhados e estradas, por exemplo.

Como funciona a tinta inovadora

  • Embora a maioria das superfícies libere calor naturalmente, o revestimento acelera esse processo refletindo a luz solar.
  • Isso ocorre na chamada janela de transparência atmosférica — uma faixa do espectro eletromagnético que pode passar pela atmosfera da Terra e escapar para o espaço sem aumentar sua temperatura, usando efetivamente o espaço como dissipador de calor. 
  • A nova tinta à base de cerâmica vem em quatro cores e, segundo os criadores, dura pelo menos 30 anos.
  • O composto também suporta temperaturas de até 1.000 graus Celsius, bem como à exposição à água e até chamas.

Testes de laboratório mostraram que a tinta reflete até 99% da radiação solar de volta ao espaço. Se o resultado acontecer na prática, pode ser uma forma promissora de reduzir as temperaturas. Pelo menos é o que esperam os criadores da ideia. 

“Isto poderá mudar como vivemos e ajudar-nos a cuidar melhor da nossa casa e do nosso planeta”, disse Xinpeng Zhao, cientista da Universidade de Maryland que liderou o estudo, em comunicado. O clima mais ameno criado pelo efeito de resfriamento poderia ainda ajudar a reduzir o uso de aparelhos de ar condicionado, afirmou Zhao ao Space.com.
