SpaceX adia lançamento de satélite de internet pela terceira vez; nova tentativa ocorre neste sábado


Empresa de telecomunicações tenta levar ao espaço o primeiro de três novos equipamentos criados para oferecer banda larga em quase qualquer lugar do planeta. O que é o satélite de internet com a maior capacidade do mundo
A empresa de telecomunicações Viasat adiou pela terceira vez o lançamento do novo satélite de internet com maior capacidade do mundo na noite desta a sexta-feira (28). A próxima tentativa será neste sábado (29), a partir das 20h30.
O satélite alcança 1 terabit por segundo (Tbps), a maior capacidade de tráfego do mundo para um equipamento do tipo.
Inicialmente, o objetivo era enviar o equipamento na quarta-feira (26) e, depois, na quinta-feira (27), mas os planos foram adiados por conta de condições climáticas desfavoráveis.
Nesta sexta-feira (28), o lançamento foi interrompido a menos de 1 minuto para a decolagem. Na transmissão ao vivo, a empresa alegou que tem extrema precaução a qualquer sinal de que o voo dê errado.
“Existem milhares maneiras de lançar um foguete e apenas uma que faça dar certo”, afirmou o apresentador, antes de encerrar a transmissão.

O Viasat-3 é um conjunto de três satélites que, juntos, levarão internet para praticamente qualquer local do planeta. Nesta quinta-feira (27), a empresa tentará lançar o primeiro deles, o ViaSat-3 Americas, em uma nave da SpaceX, do bilionário Elon Musk.
Como o nome indica, o primeiro satélite cobre os países do continente americano. O segundo cobrirá Europa, Oriente Médio e África, e tem previsão de ser lançado ainda em 2023. Já o terceiro é destinado à região Ásia-Pacífico, e ainda não tem prazo estimado para ser enviado ao espaço.

Como será o lançamento?
O lançamento será feito de uma base no Cabo Canaveral, na Flórida. O satélite é levado ao espaço pelo Falcon Heavy, nave da SpaceX que é usada desde 2018, quando levou um carro ao espaço.
Segundo a Viasat, após se desprender do foguete, o satélite fará a implantação de seus painéis solares e, então, se posicionará na órbita terrestre. Depois dessas etapas, é possível lançar o serviço para os consumidores.

O que muda com o novo satélite?
A principal novidade é a capacidade de tráfego, já que cada um dos três satélites suporta até 1 Tbps. Como comparação, o ViaSat-2, de 2017, tem cerca de um quarto dessa capacidade, podendo chegar a 260 gigabits por segundo (Gbps). Já o ViaSat-1, de 2011, alcança 140 Gbps.
Enquanto o ViaSat-3 cobrirá praticamente todo o planeta, seus antecessores atingem áreas menores. O ViaSat-2 atende à América do Norte, à América Central e o Caribe, enquanto a primeira geração é destinada para os Estados Unidos e o Canadá.
Outra vantagem é a possibilidade de destinar a capacidade de tráfego para onde há mais demanda, por meio dos “beams” (ou feixes de sinal) dinâmicos. Hoje, a maioria dos satélites utiliza “beams” fixos, isto é, a capacidade é definida antes do lançamento.
“Com os ‘beams’ fixos, você determina na construção do satélite onde vai alocar a capacidade e corre um risco de, depois, ter muita demanda e pouca capacidade em um lugar, e vice-versa”, explica o diretor-geral da Viasat Brasil, Leandro Gaunzser.
“Essa flexibilidade de poder mover a capacidade é um grande diferencial. Os ‘beams’ são dinâmicos, então, você vai ter a capacidade onde realmente tem demanda”.
Onde o satélite será usado?
A banda larga fixa é o principal negócio no Brasil da Viasat, que pretende usar o novo satélite para aumentar sua capilaridade no país e atender locais com alta demanda. Segundo a companhia, a maior demanda está na área rural e nas regiões Norte e Centro-Oeste.
“Grande parte da capacidade que vamos trazer para o Brasil vai estar direcionada para esses locais de maior demanda e, hoje, de menor receptividade de outros fornecedores. Vamos cobrir o Brasil inteiro, mas estamos focando onde está a maior necessidade da população brasileira”, diz Gaunzser.

O ViaSat-3 vai ampliar a oferta da empresa no Brasil, onde tem um acordo para usar parte da capacidade do Satélite Geoestacionário de Defesa e Comunicações Estratégicas (SGDC-1), da Telebras.
O novo satélite vai permitir conexão com velocidade de download de até 100 megabits por segundo (Mbps). No Brasil, 23% dos domicílios têm internet de 51 Mbps, segundo dados de 2021 do Centro Regional de Estudos para o Desenvolvimento da Sociedade da Informação (Cetic.br).
Qual a vantagem de usar três satélites?
Os três novos satélites vão trabalhar como uma constelação quando estiverem no espaço. Isso não fará diferença para quem vai usar banda larga fixa, mas há situações em que essa comunicação será útil.
É o caso do setor de aviação, em que as companhias aéreas poderão contar com um só serviço para oferecer internet para seus passageiros durante viagens de um continente para o outro, sem haver grandes momentos de desconexão.
